Elizabeth S. Huffman was born in a suburb of Seattle, Washington.  Following the construction industry, her family moved from Washington to Colorado Springs,  finally settling in Lexington, Nebraska.  She graduated from high school in 1983.  After high school, she stayed close to home and attended York College in York, Nebraska.  York College is a small Christian school in the heart of Nebraska.  An academic scholarship then landed her at Texas Tech University, as well as Lubbock Christian University where she received by Bachelor of Arts Degree in English.

 

     Elizabeth chose to stay in Lubbock and pursue her legal education at Texas Tech University School of Law.  She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree in 1993.  Her first job after law school was with the Office of the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee.  She has been a solo practitioner since 1998.  For over 26 years now, her practice has centered around assisting people through the bankruptcy process.

 

 

     She is active in the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar Association.  She has served in the past as treasurer and is currently the acting President.  She is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys as well as the National Association of Chapter Thirteen Trustees.

 

 

     Elizabeth is also the only female attorney in Lubbock that holds certification from The Texas Board of Legal Specialization in consumer bankruptcy law. She has been certified since 2000. Only 132 out of the 100,000 attorneys in the State of Texas are board certified in consumer bankruptcy law. Attorneys who choose to become board certified must evidence the skill and commitment necessary to meet the rigorous standards of Board Certification.  Board certification provides an objective standard that helps those in need to make informed decisions.  Board certification encourages attorneys to strive toward excellence and recognizes those who have met and continue to meet these rigorous standards.

 

 

     Outside of the office, Elizabeth enjoys attending her children’s sporting events and seeing as much of the world as she can.  Her family recently adopted Diji, a Yorkie rescued from a puppy mill. Diji often accompanies her to the office.
